Liner reliability fades marginally in November

   Liner carrier on-time reliability fell marginally from October to November, according to the latest data from SeaIntel Maritime Analysis.
   SeaIntel’s monthly schedule reliability report showed reliability declined from 64 percent in October to 63 percent in November.
   Among the world’s top 20 carriers, Maersk Line regained the No. 1 spot as the most reliable carrier, with an on-time arrival percentage of 75 percent, followed closely by Hamburg Süd at 74 percent.
   Reliability is measured as arrival on the same calendar day or the day before.
   Starting from November, SeaIntel said it has initiated measurements of reliability by the hour for carriers providing schedules and actual arrivals. At the moment, this includes seven carriers: Maersk, Hamburg Süd, NYK Line, Yang Ming, OOCL, Wan Hai and Hanjin Shipping.
   “If we use these detailed statistics we find Maersk Line to be the most reliable carrier with 88 percent on time within plus or minus 24 hours and Hamburg Süd is the number two performer with 86 percent on time within plus or minus 24 hours,” SeaIntel said.
   On the eastbound transpacific Maersk was the top performer, at 95 percent on time within the three-day range, while Hanjin was second best at 82 percent. On the Asia-to-North Europe trade Maersk again topped the list at 95 percent, while NYK and OOCL were joint second best at 75 percent.
   SeaIntel’s reliability database has tracked more than 35,000 vessel arrivals since July 2011, with 4,000 arrivals measured by the hour.
