LNG vessels for Sakhalin II oil and gas project named Two 143,000-cubic-meter Moss-type liquid natural gas carriers built for a joint venture between Japan’s NYK and Russian state-owned JSC Sovcomflot were christened Thursday at the Nagasaki shipyard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

Naming the Grand Elena

   The two LNG vessels, Grand Elena and Grand Aniva, will be chartered out for a 20-year contract term (potentially rising to 30 years) to the Sakhalin Energy Investment Co. Ltd., a consortium comprising Gazprom, Shell, Mitsui & Co. Ltd., and Mitsubishi Corp. The ships will be used as part of the Sakhalin II Project to carry LNG shipments from Sakhalin Island, a far eastern Russian territory, to various ports in Japan, Korea, and to Baja California, Mexico.
