Larry Cottrill, a 20-year seaport planning veteran, has been named director of the port's newly created division of master planning. He will be responsible for strategic planning, short- and long-range land-use policy, cargo forecasting, economic analysis and the oversight of oil operations in the Long Beach Harbor District. Cottrill, who has served as the Long Beach port's manager of Master Planning for the past six years, is well known in the port industry for his studies detailing the Long Beach and Los Angeles ports' economic impacts throughout the region and nation.
Prior to joining the Port of Long Beach, Cottrill served as deputy director of planning and research at the neighboring Port of Los Angeles. Previously he served as a city planner for Dallas, Oklahoma City and Orange County.
Rick Cameron, a long-time port veteran with more than a decade of environmental planning experience in the San Pedro Bay-area, has been selected to head up the port's newly created division of environmental planning.
Cameron, who has been serving as the port's manager of environmental planning, will be responsible for coordinating port programs dealing with air, water, and soil quality as well as wildlife habitat and sustainability.
Prior to joining the Long Beach port staff, Cameron managed various environmental programs at the Port of Los Angeles and other organizations as a project manager for Essentia Management Services. From 1996 to 2002, he was an environmental specialist for the Port of Long Beach, working in such areas as water quality, air quality and California Environmental Quality Act documentation.
