Long Beach port promotes long-time assistant engineering chief

Long Beach port promotes long-time assistant engineering chief The Port of Long Beach's governing board has Al Moro, assistant chief harbor engineer, to the recently created position of assistant managing director of engineering.
   Moro will serve as chief harbor engineer, overseeing all administrative and technical activities for the port's three engineering divisions: design, program management and construction management. The engineering section is the second-largest of the port's administrative employees, representing about a quarter of the total staff.
   A 35-year veteran of the engineering field, Moro will report to the port's top engineer, Doug Thiessen, managing director of engineering. Moro joined the port in 1997 as a senior civil engineer and was promoted to assistant chief harbor engineer in March 2001. Moro has served as acting chief harbor engineer since Thiessen was promoted in March.
