The $4.7 million crane, built by Nenzing, Austria-based manufacturer Liebherr, arrived Tuesday at the Longview port in nearly 50 different pieces.
Once assembled, the mobile crane will stand 115 feet high, weigh in at 560 tons, and feature a fully rotatable, top-mounted boom capable of spanning out to 190 feet. The crane's unique mobile base, which utilizes nearly 100 wheels in 24 four-wheel axle sets, was one of the heaviest single components of the crane, weighing in at nearly 140 tons.
The Liebherr LHM 600 has a maximum capacity of up to 208 metric tons under hook, but can also utilize other cargo handling attachments such as a bulk cargo bucket, a magnet, and a container spreader with some reduction in load capacity. According to Liebherr, it is the most powerful crane available in the mobile maritime crane market.

Port of Longview officials, who approved the purchase of the crane late last year, hope the addition to the port's heavy lifting capabilities will attract more large-scale cargo. The Longview port has become one of the heavy-lift centers in the Pacific Northwest, most notably in the wind turbine market. More than 20 percent of the port's terminal business last year resulted from the unloading of electricity generating wind turbines and their components.
