Los Angeles-Long Beach box volume up 10% in October

Los Angeles-Long Beach box volume up 10% in October Container volume at the Californian ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach increased 10 percent in October to a combined 1.45 million TEUs, compared to 1.31 million TEUs in the same month last year.
   The Port of Los Angeles handled 800,064 TEUs, up 13 percent compared to 707,740 TEUs handled in October 2005. Los Angeles' monthly loaded inbound traffic increased 12 percent to 412,554 TEUs, while loaded outbound volume went up 34 percent to 131,335 TEUs. The number of empty containers handled at the port rose 6 percent to 256,174 TEUs.
   The Port of Long Beach handled 650,726 TEUs in October, up 8.3 percent from the 600,940 TEUs it handled a year ago. Import volume rose 12.2 percent to 335,688 TEUs, from 299,203 TEUs. Outbound volume gained 5.7 percent to 109,318 TEUs, from 103,422 TEUs. Empties rose 3.7 percent to 205,720 TEUs.
   After 10 months of 2006, the Port of Los Angeles' throughput is up 12.7 percent to 7.01 million TEUs while the Port of Long Beach has witnessed growth of 9.1 percent to 6.06 million TEUs. Combined, for the year so far the two ports have increased their throughput by 11 percent to 13.07 million TEUs.
