Los Angeles port sets aside $60 million for clean air    The Los Angeles Harbor Commission has approved nearly $60 million to fund a range of near-term measures designed to improve air quality in the region.
   The measures that will come into effect over the next four years are expected to provide emissions reductions of up to 2,653 tons of NOx, 270 tons of PM10, 249 tons of PM2.5, and 756 tons of SO2.
   In a separate development, commissioners also approved a policy resolution to promote the use of shoreside electrical power, a major part of Mayor Jim Hahn’s “Alternative Maritime Power” program. The port of Los Angeles will offer its customers a financial incentive, capped at $810,000, to underwrite the cost of building or retrofitting containerships able to run on electrical power when berthed at the port.
