Knatz, who was hired away from the No. 2 position at the neighboring Port of Long Beach last year, joins the seven-member panel as one of two non-voting members.
Besides Knatz, the council comprises the state's Secretary for Resources Mike Chrisman (chair); State Lands Commission Chair, Lt. Gov. John Garamendi; Secretary for Environmental Protection Linda Adams; state Sen. Darrell Steinberg; state Assembly member Pedro Nava; and non-voting member Susan Golding representing the public.
The OPC, created by Schwarzenegger in 2004, helps coordinate and implement the governor’s Ocean Action Plan released in October 2004.
Knatz is also a member of the International Association of Ports and Harbours executive committee, serves as chair of the Center for Environmental and Engineering Research Advisory Council at California State University, Long Beach, and is also vice-chair of the California Ocean Science Trust.
