LOTT LEADS FIGHT FOR TITLE XI FUNDING

Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., along with 38 other senators, are leading the fight to secure $100 million in fiscal year 2002 appropriations for the Maritime Administration’s Title XI Ship Loan Guarantee program.

Lott’s support is considered crucial in overcoming the Bush administration’s proposal which calls for zero funding of the program on grounds that it represents “an unnecessary corporate subsidy.”

Lott and his colleagues urged the Senate Appropriations Committee to clear the funding.
