Lufthansa Cargo ‘ambitious’ about future

Lufthansa Cargo generated revenues of 2.44 billion euro in 2013, a 9.2-percent decline from 2012’s result.
Operating profit in 2013 fell by 26.7 percent to 77 million euro, and operating margin fell by 0.7 points. Freight and mail tonnage fell by 1 percentage point during the same period to 1.72 million tons.
Despite those numbers, Karl Ulrich Garnadt, Lufthansa Cargo’s chairman and chief executive officer, remained optimistic about the carrier’s future.
“We have set ourselves ambitious targets. We want to grow our tonnage by around 5 percent and plan to significantly increase the operating profit,” he said in a statement.
Lufthansa Cargo will soon put Boeing 777 freighters on routes to North America and Shanghai, and the carrier will take delivery of another Boeing 777 plane in June.
