Lufthansa Cargo ramping up security Lufthansa Cargo is expanding its Munich base into a security hub for next summer as well as equipping its Johannesburg station with modern security technology.
   At the same time, the German airline is developing its Frankfurt security hub into a showcase station for new security technologies.
   From January, Lufthansa Cargo is equipping its cargo complexes at Munich and Frankfurt airports with a combination of X-ray and explosives detection systems. In Johannesburg, the airlines will implement structural conversion work at the South African station, as well as additional alarm systems and a new security service.
   'Munich and Frankfurt will serve as model stations showcasing new technologies in air freight security. We are pursuing entirely new paths in close cooperation with manufacturers of security technology. Our measures far exceed legal requirements and are setting security norms in the air cargo industry,' said Karl-Heinz Koepfle, Lufthansa Cargo board member operations.
