Lufthansa drops surcharge on conventional booking methods

Lufthansa Cargo will lift its charge of five euros per shipment booked by phone, fax or e-mail instead of through the Internet beginning Jan. 1.

The charges were introduced a year ago on shipments from Germany to encourage customers to use online booking methods, either through the Luftansa Web site, the multi-airline Global Freight Exchange (GF-X) or electronic data interchange.

In Germany, electronic bookings accounted for about 40 percent of the total in September. Prior to the introduction of the fee online booking was only 14 percent of the total.
