LufthansaÆs 2nd-quarter profits up 58%

   Deutsche Lufthansa AG reported today a 57.7 percent jump in second quarter net profit to 183 million euros ($233.4 million), compared to 116 million euros in the year-earlier quarter.

   The Lufthansa group's second quarter operating income improved 33.2 percent to 372 million euros ($474.4 million), from 279 million euros. Group revenues rose 14.4 percent to 5.20 billion euros ($6.64 billion) from 4.54 billion euros.

   For the year to date, Lufthansa said its net income was 85 million euros ($108.5 million) compared to a profit of 200,000 euros in the same six-month period last year. Operating income for the first half of the year increased 17.4 percent to 297 million euros ($379 million) from 253 million euros in the first half 2005. Revenues increased 14.2 percent to 9.64 billion euros ($12.31 billion) from 8.45 billion euros.

   Lufthansa said that all of its business segments contributed to the first-half operating profits and that they are 'highly satisfied with the integration of SWISS in the Lufthansa Group.'
