MAERSK ADDS CAPACITY TO MED/WEST AFRICA SERVICES

Maersk Line is adding ship capacity to its
Algeciras/West Africa services by replacing 1,100-TEU vessels by larger 1,350-TEU units.
The ships will be employed on two fortnightly services between
Algeciras, Maersk’s southern European container hub, and the southern range of West
African ports.
The move is the latest in a gradual expansion of Maersk’s ship capacity
deployed in the West African trades.
In a separate development, Maersk said that it has started to exchange
space between northern/southern Europe and West Africa with CMB Transport. CMB Transport
was acquired by Maersk earlier this year, as part of its takeover of Safmarine Container
Lines.
