Maersk adds U.S.-flag capacity on Middle East service

Maersk Line Ltd., the U.S.-flag arm of the A.P. Moller Maersk Group, said it has enhanced its U.S.-flag capacity with a weekly service to the Middle East.

The company said the enhanced service is accompanied by the introduction of three new container vessels, the Maersk Montana, Maersk Ohio and Maersk Iowa. These are G-class container ships with capacity of about 4,300 TEUs each.

The ships will allow the company to offer greater frequency and more reliable service on the MECL 1 route, which call at Newark, N.Y.; Norfolk, Va.; and Charleston, S.C. Foreign ports called are Cagliari, Italy; Port Said, Egypt; Salalah, Oman; Jebel Ali, U.A.E.; Port Qasim, Pakistan; and Nhava Sheva, India.

In Port Said, relay service is offered to and from Alexandria, Egypt; Ismir, Turkey; and Haifa, Israel.
