Maersk amends Australia empty policy    Maersk Line said this week it is changing the way it releases empty containers to its customers in Australia effective Feb. 1.
   'Whenever you place an export booking, you will be required to specify the date you intend to collect empty containers for loading,' Maersk said in a customer notice. 'Containers will be made available for collection seven (calendar days) prior to the specified booking date. If no pickup date is specified at the time of booking, the release date will be set by default to 10 (calendar days) prior to the estimated time of departure of the booked vessel. Containers will be made available for collection seven (calendar days) prior to the default date.
   'If a customer fails to collect the container within the seven-day period, the release will be cancelled in the depot's system and the containers will be made available to other customers. Customers will be required to contact their local Maersk Line customer service team to have the release reinstated prior to collection.'
