Maersk CEO sick leave extended 6-8 weeks

Andersen
A.P. Moller-Maersk Group said Monday that Chief Executive Officer Nils S. Andersen will not return to work for another six to eight weeks, following a decision last week by doctors that he needed further surgery.
Andersen had been expected to return to work on Monday, but last Friday, doctors concluded after a routine scan that he should undergo corrective surgery in connection with the prosthetic cardiac valve he got late December last year. The surgery is scheduled for Wednesday, March 28.
“We expected and it was planned that Nils S. Andersen would resume his duties today, actually a little sooner than previously announced due to a fast and good recovery,” said Michael Pram Rasmussen, A.P. Moller-Maersk Group board chairman, in a statement. “Therefore we were naturally surprised when his physicians on Friday concluded differently. It is of course sad and regrettable that Nils S. Andersen has to undergo another operation even if planned.
”That said, we can with satisfaction conclude that the group in the past three months has been well run without any loss of momentum. The separate business units are individual businesses with strong management teams. And the long term goals have been defined,” he added.
