Maersk/CMA CGM shift Spain call on transatlantic

   Maersk Line said this week it is altering a call in Spain on its WestMed service between the U.S. East Coast and Mediterranean ports, a loop it runs jointly with CMA CGM.
   From the Jan. 2 sailing, the service will call Malaga westbound instead of Algeciras. The revised rotation will be Newark, Norfolk, Savannah, Algeciras, Marsaxlokk, Livorno, Genoa, Marseilles-Fos, Valencia, Malaga, and Newark.
   According to American Shipper affiliate ComPair Data, the service is run with six vessels (three each from Maersk and CMA CGM) with an average capacity of 2,793 TEUs. CMA CGM calls the service Amerigo Express. Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk subsidiary Safmarine take slots.
   “This change is aimed to increase efficiency of our westbound port calls and maintain the convenience of the eastbound Algeciras call to link cargo from North America to other trade lanes,” Maersk said in a statement.
   Algeciras is a key transshipment hub for Maersk’s intra-Europe network, operated through its Seago Line subsidiary.
