Maersk creating 17-ship Asia/Europe service Maersk Line, the world’s largest container line, is merging its two weekly Asia/Europe AE8 and AE10 loops to create a single “butterfly” loop operating with a total of 17 ships.
   The Danish carrier is undertaking a network-wide restructuring of its services as it seeks to redress anticipated losses of $600 million in its shipping division in 2006.
   The new AE8/AE10 calls Shanghai; Ningbo; Xiamen; Yantian; Hong Kong; Port Said, Egypt; Valencia; Felixstowe; Zeebrugge; Dunkirk; Malaga; Valencia; Port Said; Salalah; Colombo; Yantian; Shanghai; Kaohsiung; Xiamen; Shekou; Hong Kong; Tanjung Pelepas; Valencia; Southampton; Le Havre; Hamburg; Rotterdam; Southampton; Port Kelang; Singapore; Shekou; Kaohsiung; and back to Shanghai.
   Looking at the carrier’s schedule, Maersk is introducing vessels of more than 8,000 TEUs to the service during the second quarter.
