Maersk Logistics, Damco merge

   A.P. Moller ' Maersk Group said by September it will merge the supply chain management activities of Maersk Logistics with its freight forwarding unit Damco.

   The new operation will be called Damco.

   Both Maersk Logistics and Damco have more than 10,000 customers, a net turnover of $2.8 billion in 2008, and together shipped more than 500,000 TEUs of ocean freight, 60,000 tons of air freight and 50 million cubic meters of goods for supply chain management customers.

   Rolf Habben-Jansen, the chief executive for Maersk Logistics and Damco, said with the combined units “our primary drivers remain our passion for customers and our dedication to service delivery. And our teams across the globe will become even easier to do business with than before.”

   Maersk Logistics and Damco together have about 10,500 employees in 272 offices, covering over 93 countries.
