Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM bid for Fos terminal

Maersk Sealand, Mediterranean Shipping Co. and CMA CGM have each bid to operate phase two of the “Fos 2XL”    container terminal in the port of Fos, southern France.

The project includes the development by 2007 of facilities along 1,100 meters of quay, to be operated by the port authority in partnership with the private sector.

The carriers presented bids to operate the terminal following a call to tender launched in July.

CMA CGM bid jointly with P&O Ports through their joint venture company Portsynergy. This joint venture has already won the concession for the first phase of the terminal. Maersk bid with Seayard, a Fos stevedore in which it has a stake.

The port authority will now negotiate with the bidders.
