Maersk names latest 29-knot containership

Maersk names latest 29-knot containership Maersk Line on Friday named the fourth in a series of seven 4,150-TEU ships that are thought to have a service speed of 29 knots, making them the world's fastest containerships.
   The 'Maersk Brooklyn' was built at Maersk's German shipyard Volkswerft Stralsund GmbH and along with the other vessels in the series will be owned by the London-based Maersk Co. Ltd. and fly the British 'Red Ensign' flag.
   The ship will be delivered sometime in March after sea trials.
   Maersk has previously declined to confirm or deny the speed of the vessels or their intended deployment. An industry source has told American Shipper that once all seven ships are delivered, they will operate on an express Hong Kong/Yantian/New York service with an 18-day transit time that should attract time-critical cargo that moves to the U.S. East Coast from the Far East by more the more expensive mini-landbridge from the West Coast.
