Maersk raises Asia/South America rates

Maersk raises Asia/South America rates    Maersk Line said Wednesday it is raising rates from Asia to the West Coast of South America and also from South America to Vietnam.
   The Danish line will hike rates $300 per TEU and $600 per FEU from Asian ports to ports on West Coast of South America, effective Sept. 19.
   Meanwhile, in the other direction, Maersk is raising rates from the West Coast of South America to Vietnam. To Ho Chi Minh City, rates will rise $70 per TEU and $150 per FEU, while to Haiphong they will rise $150 per TEU and $300 per FEU. Both sets of increases are effective Sept. 1.
   'The trading conditions for the carriers operating in these markets are still subject to unacceptable rate levels and the situation is unsustainable in the longer term,' the carrier said in a statement.
