Maersk Sealand adds online “control center”
Maersk Sealand has added to its Web site an online single point of entry window, or “control center,” for use by shippers. The carrier said the control center is available for registered customers on maersksealand.com and can be compared with how most Internet banks are organized.
“From one single screen customers can see all business conducted with Maersk Sealand; how far a current transportation is in the process, for example how many bookings have been confirmed and how many transport documents are ready for the customer’s final verification and final documents ready for printing,” the Danish shipping line said.
Maersk Sealand provides customers, through its online site, these functionalities: tracking, schedules, rates, bookings, shipping instructions, transport documents, claims, statements and reports.
A Maersk Sealand spokesman said the company also allows electronic payments in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia, but not globally. “The banking industry lacks a community solution deployed globally,” he said.
Maersk Sealand’s Web site has more than 50,000 registered users in 130 countries. Most Maersk Sealand customers use maersksealand.com for self-service transactions, the company said. For example, shipping instructions entered on the Web site by the customer are processed directly into the transport documents.
