MAERSK SEALAND SPLITS REGIONAL ORGANIZATIONS    Global mega-carrier Maersk Sealand will split its regional management units into smaller organizations, partly to bring local management closer to customers.
   The move will double the number of geographic regions within the group and create four regions in Asia instead of one at present.
   Maersk Sealand’s headquarters in Copenhagen would not comment on the organizational revamp.
   A spokesman for Maersk Inc. said that the reorganization would not affect the North    America region, which covers the United States, Canada, central America and the Caribbean.
   Like most other major container carriers, Maersk Sealand is currently organized with regional management units in charge of North America, Asia and Europe. It also has a Middle East/Central Asia regional management and one for South America.
   The Danish shipping line’s reorganization goes in the reverse direction to that of APL, which announced in January the reduction of its regional organizations from six to four.
