Maersk seeks rate hikes for multiple trades

   Maersk Line said this week it is seeking rate increases on a host of global trades.
   From Oct. 1, the line plans these increases:
   • Southeast Asia to Australia, $300 per 20-foot container and $600 per 40-foot container.
   • Northern Europe to the East Coast of South America, $150 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container.
   • Chile to Europe, the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent, $125 per 20-foot container and $250 per 40-foot container or 40-foot reefer container.
   From Oct. 15, the rate increases will be:
   • Far East and Southeast Asia to New Zealand, $250 per 20-foot container and $500 per 40-foot container.
   • The Middle East to the Indian Ocean Islands, $150 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container.
   Maersk also said it will postpone a planned rate increase on cargo from Northeast Asia to Australia to Sept. 22. The increases are $250 per 20-foot container and $500 per 40-foot container.
