Maersk shipyard selling German unit

Maersk shipyard selling German unit Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd., part of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, has agreed to sell its German Volkswerft Stralsund yard to the Hegemann Group for an undisclosed amount.
   “The strategic importance of Volkswerft Stralsund for the Odense Steel Shipyard Group and A.P. Moller-Maersk has been reduced, and the shipyards have not in an adequate scale been able to achieve operational synergy,” the Danish shipyard said in a statement.
   “An owner has been found who can establish the foundation for further development of Volkswerft Stralsund, for example through synergy with the other shipyards in the Hegemann Group of companies.”
   The sale will not have any immediate effect on the Volkswerft employees, as the shipyard has a full orderbook into second half of 2009, OSS added.
   Completion of the deal is subject to documentation of the necessary guarantees by Hegemann, which is expected by the end of this month.
