Maersk suspends Europe-India ICON loop

The ocean carrier Maersk Line is suspending its weekly North Europe to the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent ICON service.
The last sailing will be by the Maersk Darlington, departing Felixstowe on March 12.
The seven-ship average 4,208-TEUs ICON has a port rotation of Felixstowe, Zeebrugge, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Salalah, Colombo, Chennai, Colombo, Salalah, and Felixstowe. Maersk subsidiary Safmarine has been sharing space on the service, calling it the Prime 2.
Maersk currently offers four other services that connect North Europe directly with the Indian Subcontinent and/or Middle East: the ME1, AE1, AE7, and TP6/AE6 pendulum.  Of the four remaining services, only the seven-ship average 6,840-TEUs ME1 loop is a dedicated North Europe-Middle East/ISC service. The ME1, however, does not currently call at Salalah, Colombo, or Chennai. — ComPair Data, Ben Meyer
