Maersk suspends fog surcharge

Maersk Line said it has decided to suspend a previously announced “fog congestion” surcharge for the port of Qingdao, China.
“The fog season has been lighter than expected, so the surcharge was suspended,” said Timothy Simpson, a spokesman for the company.
Last month the carrier said it was going to impose a $100 per container surcharge on ships calling the port during June and July because of increased waiting time and because of additional fuel costs incurred when ships need to speed up to make up for time lost while delayed in Qingdao.
