MAGAW SUBMITS TSA PLAN CALLING FOR TIGHTER CARGO, PASSENGER SECURITY

John Magaw, under secretary of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has submitted a plan to Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta that would provide for intense, measurable training for screeners who will oversee cargo, passengers and baggage.

As mandated by the Aviation and Transportation Security Act, more than 30,000 screeners will be deployed by the TSA by Nov. 19 at the 429 U.S. airports with commercial service. Already the TSA is seeking out federal security directors for those airports under the Act.

“We intend to offer an attractive and rewarding career path for screeners that will include varied, stimulating work and the chance for promotion,” said Magaw. “That path begins with intensive training.”
