Mancuso joins Akins Gump in D.C.

   Mario Mancuso, former U.S. undersecretary of commerce for industry and security, has joined the Washington office of law firm Akins Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld as a partner in the international corporate transactions practice.
   The firm said Mancuso will focus on international corporate, policy and regulatory matters.
   'He will be an extraordinary resource for our clients, particularly those operating in highly regulated industries such as high technology and telecommunications, defense, aerospace, energy, electronics, chemicals, transportation and infrastructure,' said Rick L. Burdick, the leader of Akins Gump's international corporate transactions practice, in a statement on Monday.
   While at the Commerce Department from 2007 to 2009, Mancuso was the most senior U.S. government official with direct responsibility for international trade, transactions and investment matters that implicated U.S. national security and foreign policy interests.
   Before joining Commerce, Mancuso served as the deputy secretary of defense for special operations and combating terrorism. He also previously spent a decade in the private sector as a corporate lawyer in New York, Boston and London, advising clients on cross-border merger and acquisition transactions and investments worldwide.
