Manzanillo terminal receives six super post-Panamax cranes    The Manzanillo International Terminal in Colon has taken delivery of six ‘super’ post-Panamax gantry cranes, becoming the first port in Latin America with cranes able to work vessels with up to 22 containers across their decks.
   Three of the cranes can move 18 containers across, and three are built to work up to 22 containers across. All six were built by the Shanghai-based Zhenhua Port Machinery Co.
   The cranes were brought to Colon from China aboard the Zhen Hua 10, which had to sail around the Cape of Good Hope, at the southern tip of Africa, during a 59-day voyage because the 78-meter-high vessel had a higher air draft than the 62.5-meter Bridge of the Americas on the Pacific entrance on the Panama Canal. Also, the ship’s width of 39.35 meters was larger than the waterway’s locks, which are 32.3 meters wide.
