MarAd taps Brand to lead Miami gateway office, seeks others

The U.S. Maritime Administration has appointed Lauren K. Brand to head its new South Atlantic gateway office in Miami.

Prior to this appointment, Brand served as senior director of business development for the Canaveral Port Authority in Florida.

The South Atlantic gateway office is one of 10 offices in major port cities throughout the country designated by MarAd to provide an “on the ground” team of intermodal maritime experts to work with headquarters staff, state and local authorities on a broad range of port, shipper and carrier issues, with the goal to reduce congestion, improve freight and passenger movement, and address environmental and community challenges in the ports, intermodal connections, and key freight and passenger corridors.

The South Atlantic gateway office will provide support in South Carolina, Georgia, Eastern Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

MarAd also seeks candidates to fill gateway office director positions in Houston and San Francisco. The vacancy announcements are available on line at www.usajobs.gov (vacancy number MARAD.WR-2008-0010 for Houston and MARAD.WR-2008-0011 for San Francisco).
