MarAd will not seek marine highway applications
The U.S. Maritime Administration said it has decided not to solicit applications at this time from the industry to participate in the country's marine highway corridors initiative.
The agency based its reasoning for the change on the 'current financial environment' and the receipt of informal comments indicating that 120 days is 'insufficient time to formulate an application.'
The Federal Register notice about the initiative was published on Oct. 9 and may be viewed on line at (http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2008/E8-23834.htm). To view MarAd's Oct. 31 Federal Register notice regarding the change, access: edocket.access.gpo.gov/2008/E8-25958.htm.
