Maritrans acquisition will boost Tampa operations The acquisition of Tampa-based petroleum carrier Maritrans Inc. by Overseas Shipholding Group of New York Wednesday will actually increase the size of operations in Tampa, officials from the company said.
   OSG plans to establish its U.S. shipping operations headquarters in Tampa. The new operation will be known as OSG America. It will increase the total number of employees in Tampa to 78, which will include some transfers from the New York office.
   Maritrans has been the largest carrier of gasoline and petroleum products into the port of Tampa from oil-producing states along the Gulf Coast. The same operations will continue under the OSG America brand.
