Marseilles-Fos’ box volumes up 2%

   Box volume at the French port of Marseilles-Fos increased 2 percent after the first five months of 2006 to 392,000 TEUs.

   Throughput at the Fos terminals, which handle east/west container services, increased 5 percent to 267,000 TEUs. The Marseilles terminal, used mainly for north/south and Mediterranean trades, declined 4 percent to 125,000 TEUs.

   Total port traffic for the five-month period, including bulk cargoes, was up 1.2 percent to 40.7 million tons.
