MATSON BEGINS CALLING AT PIER C IN LONG BEACH    Matson Navigation's 2,000-TEU containership, the “Lihue,” docked at Pier C in Long Beach on Wednesday, marking the carrier’s first call at the 70-acre C-60 terminal.
   The terminal is operated by SSA Terminals. The port is expanding the Pier C complex, redeveloping 11 acres of land to accommodate Matson's automobile-shipping business.
   San Francisco-based Matson, which operates in the U.S. mainland/Hawaii trade, had called at the port of Los Angeles.
   Matson is set to move into offices at Pier C on Feb. 3.
   Matson's relocation to Long Beach is the last in a recent series of moves at the port's container terminals. In December, SSA Terminals Long Beach moved into the 170-acre Pier A terminal north of Terminal Island. SSA Terminals’ major carrier customers in Long Beach are Mediterranean Shipping Co. and Zim Israel Navigation.
