Matson, Horizon march in step on fuel surcharge increases
Ten days after announcing a 1.25 percent fuel surcharge increase, Oakland-based Matson Navigation Co. announced Wednesday it will again increase its Hawaii service fuel surcharge by 1.75 percentage points to 22.5 percent, effective May 27.
Charlotte, N.C.-based Horizon Lines, the other vessel operator in the U.S. mainland-Hawaii trade, announced Friday that it would raise its fuel surcharge by 1.75 percent to 22.5 percent, also effective May 27. Earlier this month, Horizon announced an initial surcharge increase matching Matson's.
Both surcharge increases apply to Hawaii and Guam shipments, while Matson's increases also apply to North Mariana Island service.
