MATSON PLANS 3.9% RATE HIKE IN U.S. PACIFIC/HAWAII SERVICE
Matson Navigation Co. has filed a 3.9-percent rate increase in its U.S.
Pacific Coast/Hawaii service, effective Feb. 14.
Matson said the increase is needed to offset rising operating costs and
to support ongoing investment in containers and chassis, shoreside
equipment and technology.
The shipping line said the most significant rise in operating costs is due to
the new three-year contract with the International Longshore and
Warehouse Union, which provides an 8-percent wage increase and hefty increases in benefits
