Matson VP North to retire, Angoco to head Pacific operations

Matson VP North to retire, Angoco to head Pacific operations Jones Act carrier Matson Navigation Corp. announced Thursday that the firm's senior vice president in charge of Pacific operations, Gary North, is retiring on April 1.
   A 40-year veteran of the maritime industry, North spent a total of 27 years with Matson, first in the carrier's Hawaii freight office and then returning in 1987 as vice president, area manager, Hawaii. In between his stints at Matson, North served in a number of management positions with Seatrain Lines and U.S. Lines.
   “Gary’s contributions to Matson have been enormous and encompassed such milestones as the start up of our Guam service, formation of SSAT on the West Coast and automation of the company’s hub terminal facility at Sand Island,” said James Andrasick, Matson president and CEO. “Most recently, he has been at the forefront of the Hawaii Harbors Users Group (HHUG) in its efforts to address the need to modernize the state’s port facilities. Throughout his career, Gary has been passionate about Matson and its people. That dedication has been reflected in all that he has done for the company over the years.”
   Shortly after returning to Matson, North was promoted to vice president, operations, and transferred to the then-headquarters of Matson in San Francisco. In 1991, he was also named as president of Matson Terminals, Inc., and two years later promoted to senior vice president of Matson. He relocated to Honolulu as senior vice president, Pacific, in 2003.
   Replacing North as head of the carrier’s operations in the Pacific, including Hawaii, Guam and Micronesia, is Vic Angoco, the current country manager of Guam for Matson. In addition to his new Pacific operations role, Angoco has been promoted to vice president of Matson and will also serve as executive vice president of the Matson subsidiary, Matson Terminals, Inc. Angoco, currently country manager, Guam, will relocate from Guam to Honolulu.
   A Guam native, Angoco has been in the maritime industry since 1990, first serving in management positions with American President Lines and Sea-Land Services. He joined Matson in 1996 as manager, operations, Guam, and soon after was promoted to manager, sales/customer service. He transferred to San Francisco in 2001 and was promoted to manager, national accounts and eastern area sales. In 2002, he was promoted again to manager, container operations and transferred to Honolulu. In 2004, he joined Young Brothers, Ltd./Hawaiian Tug & Barge as vice president, sales and marketing and was promoted to vice president and general manager in 2005. In 2006, he was promoted to senior vice president of Young Bros. Angoco returned to Matson the same year as country manager, Guam.
   Succeeding Angoco as Matson's general manager, Guam and Micronesia, is Len Isotoff who will transfer from Honolulu to Guam.
   Isotoff first worked for Matson in 1999 as a project manager for Matson Logistics Solutions and formally joined MLA as manager, logistics, Guam, in 2000.
   He transferred to the parent Matson firm in 2001 where he was promoted to manager, sales and customer service, Guam. He was promoted to manager, sales, Pacific Northwest in 2003 and promoted to manager, container operations, Hawaii in 2006.
