   David T. Matsuda's nomination to U.S. maritime administrator on Tuesday was reported out of the Senate Commerce Committee and confirmed by the full Senate.
   Matsuda was nominated by the Obama administration to lead the Maritime Administration in early December 2009, and his confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce Committee was held on Jan. 26.
   Matsuda has been serving as deputy administrator and acting maritime administrator of MarAd since July 2009. He previously was deputy assistant secretary for policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation, focusing on issues including surface transportation reauthorization, maritime matters, labor issues and high-speed rail.
   Prior to that, he spent seven years on Capitol Hill, serving as senior counsel and primary transportation advisor to Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg, D-N.J.
