The arrest was made in the wake of Chavez’s party seizing control of the country’s highways, airports and seaports. That included taking control of ports in Cabello, Venezuela’s biggest port, and Maracaibo, where Manuel Rosales is mayor.
Rosales is a member of the opposition party to Chavez and has said the charges against him were fabricated in a bid to squelch opposing voices and bolster Chavez’s power in states that opposed him in the most recent elections.
