He replaces James K. Neff, the company's founder and CEO, who is retiring at the end of the month. Neff will remain a board member and significant shareholder of Southern Air.
McHugh was CEO of DHL Express Asia Pacific. He joined DHL Express Asia in 2005 as senior vice president of commercial. Before that, he held senior management positions at Vietnam Partners LLC, a New York-based investment bank focused on Vietnam; APL as president of the Asia/Middle East region and then executive vice president for global marketing, sales and customer support; and Sea-Land Service as head of the Latin American and North Asia regions.
McHugh has also served on the boards of Blue Dar Express (India), DHL's joint venture with Sinotrans; and Express Courier Ltd. New Zealand and Express Courier Ltd. Australia.
