MED SHIPPING, HYUNDAI AND ACL REVISE ATLANTIC SERVICES, ADD HALIFAX

   Following the extension of the Mediterranean Shipping Co./Hyundai
Merchant Marine’s joint service agreement, the two carriers have implemented
previously-announced changes to their two joint weekly transatlantic services.
   In addition, the carriers have added a direct eastbound call at Halifax to their North Atlantic/northern Europe service.
   The North Atlantic/northern Europe and South Atlantic/Gulf/northern Europe joint services of Med Shipping and Hyundai also involve Atlantic Container Line, which offers the services under a slot charter agreement.
   The North Atlantic service has dropped Hamburg as a direct call and now
has a rotation of Boston, Baltimore, Norfolk, New York, Halifax, Antwerp, Bremerhaven, Felixstowe, Le Havre, Boston, New York and Baltimore.
   The first eastbound call at Halifax, British Columbia, is scheduled on
Jan.20.
   The South Atlantic/Gulf service will now include Hamburg as a direct call
and a sixth vessel, the "MSC Samia," has been added.
   Only Med Shipping serves the Mexican ports of Veracruz and Altamira on
the South Atlantic/Gulf service. The revised rotation is Veracruz, Altamira, Houston, New Orleans, Freeport, Charleston, Antwerp, Bremerhaven,
Hamburg, Felixstowe, Charleston, Freeport (Bahamas), Veracruz, Altamira,
Houston and New Orleans.
   The addition of Halifax to the service will enable Med Shipping and Hyundai to enter the Canada/northern Europe market and offer the Canadian port as an alternate route for U.S. Midwest cargoes.
   The Hapag-Lloyd, OOCL, NYK, ACL, Maersk Sealand, China Ocean Shipping Co., "K" Line, Yangming Marine Transport and other carriers already operate transatlantic services that call at Halifax in addition to New York.
