Menlo starts dedicated U.S./Shanghai freighter service    Menlo Worldwide Forwarding is starting a dedicated weekly freighter service between its air cargo hub in Dayton, Ohio, and Shanghai Pudong Airport under a charter agreement with World Airways.
   The flight was recently approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
   The approval comes under the U.S./China aviation agreement signed earlier this year.
   Jerry Trimarco, senior vice president, global transportation at Menlo Worldwide Forwarding, said that his company is one of the first air freight forwarders to fly dedicated lift to and from the United States and the Shanghai market.
   Recently, Menlo Worldwide Forwarding expanded its contract with World Airways to provide DC-10-30F service between Dayton, Ohio and Los Angeles through the end of 2004, and MD-11F service between Dayton and Hong Kong in October and November 2004.
   “China is presently the largest transoceanic trading partner of the United States, and the airborne trade between the two countries is expected to grow faster over the next 20 years than with any other U.S. trading partner,” Menlo Worldwide Forwarding said.
   Menlo Worldwide Forwarding is in the process of being acquired by UPS, under a $150-million friendly takeover bid announced by both companies on Oct. 5.
