Miami air cargo numbers up

Air freight volumes at Miami International Airport increased 1.27 percent during October, with UPS and American Airlines seeing the greatest gains among the major carriers.

   Freight volumes increased to 182,381 freight tons for the month. LAN Cargo, UPS, Peru's Tampa Cargo, American, and Peru-based Cielos Airlines ranked as the top five carriers. But among that group, only the U.S.-based companies saw volume gains. UPS's volume increased 9.47 percent and American Airlines was up 13.3 percent. LAN saw volume decrease 3 percent, while Tampa was down 25 percent and Cielos fell 29.2 percent.

   Up-and-coming cargo carriers at Miami International include China Airlines Cargo, up 37.5 percent to 3,512 tons; and relative newcomer Korea Airlines, up 237 percent to 2,137 tons for the month.

   For the 12 months ending Oct. 31, overall international cargo volumes at the airport increased 5.89 percent to 1.65 million freight tons.
