Miami air freight up 5 percent

Miami air freight up 5 percent Air freight volumes increased 5 percent at Miami International Airport during November, with Miami-based Centurion Air Cargo moving into the top five freight carriers during the month.
   The latest statistics available from the airport show that for the 12 months ending Nov. 30 the combined international and domestic air freight volumes were up 5.02 percent to just over 2 million short tons. International freight volumes increased 5.76 percent to 1.76 million short tons, while domestic freight volumes were flat, up only nine-tenths of a percent to 302,626 tons.
   Freight volumes overall were up 4.4 percent compared to November 2006 to 179,041 tons.
   The top five freight carriers were Chile-based LAN Airlines, UPS, Peru-based Tampa Cargo, American Airlines, and Centurion. Centurion edged out Arrow Air to move into the top five position. Centurion moved 12,274 tons of freight during November, while Arrow had 12,265 tons.
   Peru's Cielos Airlines, which had moved into the top five in October, saw a decline of just under 45 percent from November 2006 to November 2007, and dropped into ninth place among the MIA freight carriers.
