Miami International cargo up 8.2% in August

Miami International cargo up 8.2% in August Miami International Airport saw its freight tonnage increase 8.2 percent to 169,128 tons in August, of which 125,000 tons was handled by freighters, according to statistics release Monday by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department.
   American Airlines, the fourth-largest freight carrier in August, saw its monthly cargo volume spike 31 percent to 13,314 tons. Volume leader LAN Airlines saw a 4.3 percent decrease to 16,690 tons, while second-place Arrow Air dropped 7.7 percent to 15,080 tons. UPS was third (14,550 tons, up 3.7 percent), and Cielos Airlines was fifth (12,134 tons, up 1.2 percent).
   Through the first eight months of the year, the airport's gross landed cargo tonnage is 576,248 tons, up 2.4 percent from the same period a year ago.
