Miami International takes perishables logistics on the road    Miami International Airport is planning its 12th annual Perishables Logistics Road Shows for Bogota and Medellin.
   At our road shows, the airport presents an all-day seminar on the best methods of moving perishable freight through the global logistics supply chain to markets in the United States, the European Union and Asia via Miami International.
   The shows assist in lessening pest interceptions and fumigations in Miami, along with increased compliance with import requirements, said Bunny Schreiber, aviation cargo specialist for the airport's marketing division.
   'Of late, pest interceptions have grown exponentially and we must do whatever we can to ensure that this intolerable situation is rectified,' Schreiber said. 'Indeed, the federal agencies have expressed that although the road shows represent a significant investment of time and resources these seminars are paying off.'
The road shows include representatives from Customs and Border Protection, and its Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism program; the Food and Drug Administration; U.S. Department of Agriculture; and other industry people.
   The shows will be held May 20 in Bogota and May 22 in Medellin.
   Schreiber is looking for sponsors to cover coffee breaks ($600 each), two closing events ($1,000 each) and a luncheon in Medellin ($2,000). UPS will sponsor the luncheon in Bogota.
