Middle East airline joins Cargo 2000

Ethihad Crystal Cargo has become the first Middle Eastern cargo airline to join Cargo 2000, an air carrier and freight forwarder program that reduces steps in the air cargo transport chain.

“We are only two years in the market and this gives us the advantage of being able to build our processes in an effective way right from the beginning,” said Ingo Roessler, vice president of Ethihad, in a statement.

Ethihad carried 20,000 tons in 2004, increasing that amount by 400 percent in 2005 with revenues of about $100 million. The airline is working with Abu Dhabi International Airport in the United Arab Emirates to expand its cargo facilities. With the addition of Ethihad, the airport expects to handle about 1 million tons of cargo a year.
